GENERAL INFORMATION

DESCRIPTION OF CLASSES

The Cecchetti method is a graded system of classical ballet that takes the student from beginning ballet to solo status. It provides a solid base for training children, adults and teachers. Students may study for examinations in the full range of the Cecchetti grades from the Primaries to the advanced Diploma. In preparing for these exams, students study a set syllabus of exercises with emphasis on artistry, technique and theory. The purpose of these exams is for professional and individual development, self-confidence and advancement.

Ages given below are a general guideline. Class assignments are determined at the time of registration. New students are evaluated during the first week of enrollment to assure proper placement. Changes are made on the recommendation of the teacher.

Creative Movement 3 – 4 year-olds

This class explores music, rhythm and movement. Children develop a love for movement through a combination of musical skills, mime, basic ballet technique and character dances.

Primary I - III 5 – 8 year-olds

Continues Creative Movement while introducing Pre-Grade I technique.

Grades I - Diploma

In these Grades both syllabus and non-syllabus classes are offered. The repetition of a syllabus class allows the student to concentrate on form and technique while the non-syllabus offers more variety, mental exercise and opportunity to expand on what has been practiced in the syllabus. For the best progress and training BOTH classes are strongly recommended. Any student planning to take the Cecchetti exams must take both the syllabus and non-syllabus classes. Grade I exam candidates must be at least 8 years of age at the time of the exam.

GRADE I 7 - 10 year-olds who have some dance background

GRADE II 9 - 12 year-olds who have mastered Grade I

GRADE III 12 - 14 year-olds who have mastered Grades I & II

GRADE IV 14 - 16 year-olds who have mastered Grades I, II, & III

GRADE V begins work at the professional level

Teen/Adult
